Sowing and Reaping

Life is all about sowing and reaping. The word "sow" means to plant a seed. The word "reap" means to harvest what grows. We sow by making choices and deciding what we are to do. We reap the fruit of our choices and our actions. The prophet Hosea told the children of God about this long ago, and it is still very true today. (Hosea 10:12,13)

Any one of us can choose to sow righteousness. We can plant the seeds of righteous words and actions in our lives. For this to happen we need to have soft hearts, and we need to cry out to God to show us what to do and say. If we do this with a faithful heart, seeking His will and not our will, God will rain righteousness on our lives and we will reap in mercy. God will bless us beyond what we could ever conceive.

However, if anyone chooses to sow wickedness, he or she will reap iniquity or sinful things in life. If we make that choice, we will eat the fruit of lies we have believed. The biggest lie is that real life comes when we get our own way and we trust in other people, instead of trusting God. This choice is full of terrible results, words, and actions which destroy us and the people around us.

Paul told us this in Galatians 6:7,8. We must not deceive ourselves or allow ourselves to be deceived by others. We must know that whatever we sow, we will reap. God will make sure of that. If we sow to our human desires and wishes, we will reap corruption for our lives. If we sow to the Holy Spirit by doing what He leads us to do, we will reap eternal life. What are you sowing? Don't fool yourself; you can tell by what you are reaping.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Hosea 11-13.
