The Written Words of the Lord

The Bible is the written words of the Lord. It does not just contain the words of the Lord, but it is the words of the Lord, which were inspired by the Holy Spirit to be spoken and/or to be written down for us. Jeremiah is a good example of this. (Jeremiah 36:4) Jeremiah was God's prophet to speak the words of God, and Baruch was his scribe to write them down on a scroll. Now, we have all of the words of the Lord to Jeremiah and to other people God inspired in our Bible today.

Think about it. When we carry around a Bible, we are carrying the very words of God. What a treasure we have! We must never grow complacent about the Bible, and we must never neglect to read it and memorize it, because it is so precious to us. It is for our spiritual growth and instruction. (II Timothy 3:16,17) The Bible should be one of our most prized possessions.

Unfortunately, there are many people today like the king of Judah, who did not want to hear the words of the Lord, so he cut the scroll and burned it all in the fire. However, his opposition did not destroy God's Word. Baruch simply wrote another copy. That has been true of everyone who tried to stamp out the words of the Lord all down through history. It is impossible, because God not only inspired the Bible, but He protects it, too, so that we will always have His words with us. The question is, "Will we believe them?" I pray we will.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 39-42.
