Amend Your Ways

Often, we decide on a course of action, but we find out it will not work, so we have to change what we were going to do. The same is true for life. Sometimes, we think we have the right view of how to live, but we find out that we have been mistaken about some things, so we have to make changes. That is what Jeremiah called amending our ways. (Jeremiah 26:13) Like a motion at a business meeting is amended, our lives need to be amended to make sure we are on the right track.

How is your life going? If there are problems and obstacles to your fulfillment and true happiness, why are they causing you difficulties? Could it be that you need to amend your ways? I hope all of us will take time to consider this question. People get comfortable with their lives, and people do not like to change. However, change can be very good, and we need to be open to changes, especially when we need to change to obey the Word of the Lord.

If we fail to amend our ways when we are disobeying God, we will experience His punishment. The only way to avoid that punishment, is to listen to Him and amend our ways exactly as He leads us to do. If we are faithful to amend our ways, He will gladly relent of the punishment. That is what He wants to do, but it is up to us to make the adjustments and amend our ways.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 27-29.
