Don't Get Ahead of God

King David was a wise leader. Before he led his army against an enemy, he consulted with the Lord in prayer. Then, he did not do anything until God gave him directions. One time when David prayed about going against the Philistine army, God told David to wait until he received a sign from Him and then to proceed with the battle.(I Chronicles 14:15) We can all learn a great lesson from what God told David.

We all need to pray before any decision and follow God's leadership. One reason for this is that God gives us His wisdom in what to do. The other reason is that we never want to get ahead of God. God told David to wait until he heard a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees before he went forward. That sound was God going before them into the battle. This assured the victory. I personally think the sound was made by the Holy Spirit blowing through the trees on the way to the camp of the enemy. The word spirit means "wind." We always want God's Spirit to go before us to prepare our way. That is why we never want to get ahead of God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 15-18.
