Courage

Courage to stand for what is right no matter the cost is a good character quality. I believe we see less courage in America today among all people, even Christians. We need to consider what the Bible says about the families of the tribe of Issachar. They were known for their might and courage.(I Chronicles 7:5)

It is rare to see a whole group of people today known for their courage. I think of the Marines, who are willing to be on the front lines of our armed forces and go wherever they need to go to carry out their mission. However, the Marines are made up of individuals from many families, and all the rest of their family is not necessarily known for their courage. I believe we need to promote courage in our families, our churches, and in our nation, so that we become known as people of courage.

Of course, the reason people do not stand up for what is right no matter the cost is two-fold. The first thing that causes us to lack courage is a lack of conviction about the truth and right. If people are apathetic or wishy-washy about what is right, they will not take a stand. The second part is fear. The Bible is clear that God has not given His children a spirit of fear and that perfect love casts out fear. Therefore, if we have fear of man in our lives, we should know something is wrong with our relationship with God. I believe if we get right with God, we will know the truth, and He will give us the power to put aside the fear, so we can be truly courageous. Please, join with me to pray that Christians will do that, and we will be known as people of courage, who stand for God's truth and what is right, no matter the consequences.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 8-10.
