There is Always Hope with the Lord

Today, we read about two ladies, Ruth and Hannah, who were both in seemingly hopeless situations. However, they learned there is always hope with the Lord. (Ruth 4:17; I Samuel 1:20) We can all benefit from looking at their lives.

Ruth was a young widow with no prospects for a husband in her homeland, so she followed her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi, and God into a strange land. There she was led by God to glean in the field of a close family member, Boaz, who blessed her and redeemed her by taking her as his wife, since that was his desire and his right. Finally, Ruth conceived a son, Obed, who was the grandfather of king David. Ruth went from a seemingly hopeless situation to having a loving husband, a son, and being in the family of David and Jesus. How blessed is that!

Hannah was barren and abused by Elkanah's other wife. People thought barren women were cursed. However, Hannah prayed so fervently that Eli, the priest, thought she was drunk. God saw her heart, and answered her prayer. She bore a son, Samuel, who led God's people as a priest and judge and prophet. God also blessed her with more children.

Both women found their hope in the Lord as they fully followed Him. The same can be true for any of us, as we set our hearts on Him, and we know that our true hope is only found in the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 2-5.
