Complete Commitment

Ruth has long been an example of complete commitment.(Ruth 1:16,17) When her husband died, and she decided to go back to Israel with her mother-in-law, Naomi, who had lost her husband, also, she expressed her heart in a wonderful way that we need to take to heart.

Complete commitment to the Lord in life and in marriage entails many facets. It is not just a feeling. It is a decision to act in a consistent way for the rest of our lives. We must be willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill our commitment. We must go where God leads, live where He says for us to live for as long as He says to live there. We must become part of the people of God or the family into which we marry. We must abandon all, so that we die where God leads us, and we do not worry about where we will be buried. We must expect that God will punish us, if we fail to complete any of these actions, as we live out our commitment.

Think of how our lives would be different if we would live like this? Think of the quality of our marriages, if we had this resolve from the beginning. Let's take time today to reflect and to pray about the level of our commitment to the Lord and to our spouse. Then, I pray we can say what Ruth said with no hesitation.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ruth 1-3 and I Samuel 1.
