The Proud He Knows from Afar
Do you want to be close to God? Get rid of your pride and become lowly or humble.(Psalm 138:6) That is how it works with God. He chooses to hang out with lowly people, and He only knows the proud from afar. It has to do with God's character and our character. Even though God is perfect in every way, He does not think more of Himself than He should, and people who do are not appealing for Him to draw close to for fellowship. Think about it with me.
Who do you like to hang out with? Most of us do not want to be around others who are stuck on themselves and have to have their own way. It is much more pleasant to relate to a humble person who has a proper view of themselves and life. We can get closer to a lowly person because they do not put up walls or try to be something they are not. God is the same way. If we want God to draw near to us, we have to care about Him and what He cares about. We must love Him as He loves us, in an unselfish way. Then, He will get very close to us and walk with us all of the time. When we get proud, He is not going to put distance between Himself and us.
