Separate, Not Disconnected

Believers are to be different from others, because we belong to the Lord. The Lord is holy, so we are to be holy.(Leviticus 20:26) What is holy? It is simple really. We are to do what He would do, and we are to stay away from what He calls sin. That makes us different, but it should not disconnect us from people who are not believers. God wants them to be holy, too, and we are His instruments to show them they way to Him.

Did your parents teach you to do the opposite of what they thought was right? Did your parents tell you to be like everyone else and do whatever they do? I doubt it. However, when it comes to the Lord, we think He is mean or strict when He tells us to do things His way, because He knows what is right. We do not think it is fair for Him to want us to stay away from sin and to do His will. Think about it. If we are His children, shouldn't we act like Him?

This should make us different from other people, but we are not to purposefully separate ourselves from them, so they won't corrupt us or defile us.We will be separate simply because we live in God's way. The difference will be obvious. His love, joy, peace, and kindness will be evident. The fact that we do not commit sexual sins and worship idols will be evident as well. When others see us, they should be struck by the difference, and that should draw attention to the Lord, so we can explain why we are holy. Then, they can come to know the joy of belonging to Him, too.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 23-25.
