Walking with God

As I have been reading Genesis this time, I noticed something about walking with God that I had not seen before. I love it when God shows me new things, don't you? God's Word is so alive that it is new and fresh every time we read it. There were two people who were commended specifically for walking with God, Enoch and Noah. In the case of Enoch he was rewarded for walking with God by God taking him straight to Heaven without having to die physically.(Genesis 5:24) In Noah's case he and his whole family were spared physical death in the flood, because he walked with God.(Genesis 6:9) God told him to enter the ark with his family, because he was the only righteous man in his time.(Genesis 7:1) I think we should all seek to walk with God, not just for the benefits, but because we know God loves it so much.

What does it mean to walk with God? I am sure there are more aspects than I can name here, but let's consider what this means. Think of taking a walk with another person. What happens most of the time? When we take a walk with another person, we are sensitive to them, so that we walk "together." We do not walk ahead or behind, but we stay in tune with the other person. Also, we talk with each other, as we walk. It is a time for getting to know each other better or to relay personal information. Finally, it is an enjoyable experience was we interact with the other person.

Are these things characteristics of your daily life with the Lord? Are you sensitive to where He is going and what He is doing, so that you try to keep in step with Him? Do you talk with God consistently through the day? I did not say talk "to" God, but talk "with" God, listening for His responses more than thinking about what you are saying to Him. Do you enjoy the Lord, and does He enjoy your company? If you do not enjoy Him, you will not walk with Him. You will simply go through a ritual to try to please him or help yourself. He knows if that is what you are doing, and He does not walk with folks like that. Let's decide to walk with Him every day and see what happens in our lives, as He protects us and guides us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 11-14.
