Peace

John 14-16 is a gold mine of spiritual truth and encouragement for believers. Jesus was preparing His disciples for His death, resurrection, and ascension, and all that He told them applies to us today.  The conclusion of it all comes in John 14:33. If we are in Christ, and we follow His commands, we will have real peace in the midst of a world of tribulation around us. This is reality for those of us who know Him and abide in Him daily.

Chris and I had a very unusual day yesterday, It was a day of pain. She had one of her migraine headaches as she took Jacob to school in the morning. She was incapacitated in her car until I could go get her and bring her home to sleep the rest of the day. I woke up to a swollen face that grew bigger and bigger on one side, until my dentist relieved the pain and fever by giving me a root canal in the afternoon. The fever and the pain were about as bad as I have had in a long time. Those are two examples of tribulations we have while we are in this world infected by sin and corruption. However, through it all Chris and I had His perfect peace that we were in His hands, and  Jesus would care for us well as we prayed and depended on Him. It is so much easier to have a day of pain when our hearts are filled with His peace, joy and love.

Take some time to read and reflect on John 14-16. If peace is lacking in your life, stop and have a long conversation with Jesus. It may be that He does not live in your life. It may be that you have your heart set on other things besides Him and His Word. Whatever the problem, be assured He wants you to have peace in Him. He will show you how to enter His peace no matter what happens in the world around you.

Tomorrow, I intend to read John 17-19.
