Words We Should Want to Hear
I am sure that we all like to receive compliments about our work and other things that are important. However, there is one thing we should all want to hear from the Lord one day, "Well done, good and faithful servant."(Matthew 25:21) In fact, it makes all other compliments pale in comparison to the importance of hearing these words. Let's take a minute to examine this verse for clues about how we can hear this when we stand before the Lord.
Faithfulness is the quality the Lord is looking for in His servants. Therefore, our lives are to be lived in obedience to Him and to His Word, not to our own desires, if we wish to hear Him commend us. Also, we do not have to do great things. If we are faithful in a few things, that is enough. God will not overload us with so much that we can't be faithful to Him. Our obedience here determines our reward in heaven, but it also, determines our responsibilities there. We will rule with Him, and the good and faithful servants will rule over many things for eternity. Finally, we will enter the joy of the Lord in this way. It is worth sacrificing pleasures now, so we can enter into the ultimate joy then.
I pray that we will so order our lives that we will hear Him say, Well done, good and faithful servant to us. Can you imagine the sense of fulfillment that will bring to those who hear it? Can you imagine the sense of regret that will come over those who don't hear it? It is definitely worth our intentional obedience to the Lord.
