Where Do Our Words Come From?

Our words come straight from our hearts.(Matthew 15:18) We are fooling ourselves, if we tell ourselves that we are good people, and we are right with the Lord, if there are wrong words coming out of our mouths. We can make excuses, and we can ignore them, but if we do, we are ignoring a serious problem.

Difficult circumstances and painful events do not cause us to cuss and scream at others. When we use foul language at any time, it proceeds from anger and corruption in our hearts. Until we confess our sin and cleanse our hearts by the power of the Spirit, we will keep saying the wrong things.

When we are sarcastic and cut others down, it is not funny and just because we are "witty." We have a wrong attitude or spirit in our hearts that is shown by our words. If our hearts are full of love, we will not hurt people with our words, but we will build them up.

Consider how many times your words hurt other people or damage your life. If you can think of times when this is happening, it is a heart problem. The only cure is a heart change by God's power. The Bible assures us that no person can tame the tongue. It is only God who can do that when He takes the bad things out of our hearts, and we replace them with the good things which should be there.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 16-18.
