Being Holy

Being holy does not mean to be better. Basically, it means to be different. Since God calls for all believers to be holy like Him, we need to understand what holy means.(I Peter 1:15,16) Let me explain.

The word holy means to be "set apart or separate." Read the context in I Peter. The Lord calls us to come to Him and to come out of the world. Once we are saved we are a part of His family, not a citizen of this world. Therefore, we are to live like a child of God, not like those who do not know Him.

Therefore, we are holy because we are separated from the world, and we are set apart for God's use. This means we will stay away from sin, and we will do what God does instead. This is where the being different comes in. Since most people do what they want to do and what the world tells them to do, we will be different. They should see that our lives are given to the Lord for His use.

Being holy is the best life possible for any individual. To know God by trusting Christ as Lord and then, to live the life He has designed for you is the best life you could ever have. Selfishness does not bring happiness. Being holy brings real happiness and joy, because real life is about being unselfish, so we do what God designed us to do. Then, He blesses us.

I pray that each of us will experience a holy and happy Christmas this year!

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 4-5 and II Peter 1.
