God's Favor or God's Judgment

Sometimes, we fall into the trap of thinking that bad things will not really happen to us. Then, we are surprised when they actually take place. It is a form of denial. However, God has a way of shattering our denial and bringing reality crashing down on us. That is what happened to all of the people of the Lord in Jeremiah's day when the Babylonians took over Jerusalem and destroyed it.(Jeremiah 39:8) They probably never thought they would see this happen.

Why did it happen? God removed His favor and His hand of protection because of their rebellion and sin. He allowed the judgment to fall on them to show them His anger. This was a way of bringing them back to Him. They had to have a wake up call, and this was it.

What about you? What about America? Are we going to experience God's favor or His judgment? It will depend on whether we trust Him and follow Him or not. So far, we are not doing well, at all. We will be in for a very rude awakening, too, if we don't wake up and turn back to Jesus.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 41-43.
