From Anger To Comfort
How long does it take you to move from anger to comfort? Let's say you have a righteous anger against sin, and you say the right thing or do the right thing to someone. Then, they respond in a contrite way. Do you begin to comfort them immediately, or do you hold a grudge? God always does the right thing when He gets angry, and He is quick to move from anger to comfort when we repent and confess our sins.(Isaiah 12:1)
Consider disciplining a child. We administer the punishment without ill will. We love the child, and we want them to quit doing the wrong thing and start doing the right thing. What do you do next? You should wait until the punishment has caused the child to think, and then, comfort the child. Show them your love, and show them the right thing to do. That is what God does for us.
Many people are slow to move from anger to comfort. Some people just don't say anything or do anything, except stay angry at the other person. If the other person repents and asks for forgiveness, they do not grant the forgiveness and administer comfort. They hold a grudge, which eats them up. We need to be quick to move from anger to comfort, when we do get angry for the right reasons and do the right things.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 15-17.
