Confidence

It is good to have confidence in ourselves, if we have the right perspective. When we are confident, we know we have the ability to do something well. There is nothing wrong with being good at what we do. There is nothing wrong with being confident, when we are good at something.

We cross the line when we become proud because we are good at something. Pride puts the emphasis on us and our ability. Pride is giving ourselves credit for our own abilities and intellect. Pride leads us to fall into the trap of over-confidence and self-centeredness. It is a terrible sin.

However, we can and should realize that all of our abilities and intellect come from God. He designed us to be the way we are. If we are good at something, He should get all of the credit, not us. When we realize He is the source of all we have, we will never be proud, only grateful to God for His gifts to us. We can still be confident and humble at the same time. In fact, we are humbled to think that God would bless us in such wonderful ways. We are confident that how He made us was good. We can be confident in the abilities He gave us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Colossians 2-4.
