In The Name Of The Lord Jesus
I don't think we really appreciate what it means to do something in the name of another person. It means that we do something that person would recommend or encourage. It means that person would back us up in what we do. We are making a reference to that person's character when we invoke his name. It is something, he or she would do.
Now, think about Colossians 3:17. The Lord commands us to do every word or deed in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Think about that for a minute. What things that we said today were not in line with Jesus' character, and He would not back us up in what we said? How many of our actions are not what He would have recommended? That means we have a lot to learn about living in Jesus Name.
If Jesus wouldn't recommend that we say or do it, we should rethink those words or actions. We should stop to ask Him what He would recommend. Then, we can speak and act in His authority.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Thessalonians 2-4.
