Body, Soul, and Spirit

This morning our men continued our study of Luke 13, as we discussed the significance of the lady in the Synagogue who Jesus loosed from a spirit of infirmity which had bent her over for 18 years. She was a Jewish lady who was in a place of worship, but she was in bondage to a demon that caused her a physical malady. It is humbling to think that any of us could come under the influence of Satan, if we allow him to have a foothold in our lives. He is so good at turning footholds into strongholds.

We took the opportunity to consider that every human being is a body, soul, and spirit combined to make one individual person. In effect, we have three parts that make up the whole, and each part has an effect on the others. This is the reason a spiritual bondage can cause a physical sickness or infirmity. Also, the soul is made up of our mind, will, and emotions. If we do not have them set apart to the Lord, we can experience all sorts of emotional and psychological troubles, besides the spiritual oppressions. Suffice it to say that we can't neglect any part of our being, or we will never become all the Lord designed us to be.

Jesus is the only one who can free us from any physical, emotional, or spiritual strongholds.(II Corinthians 10:3-6) We all need to present our bodies, our souls, and our spirits completely to Him for His redeeming power to wash over them and recreate us in His image. It doesn't mean we will never get sick or have any problems. It does mean we will experience life in its fullest, and we will have His presence with us through it all.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Thessalonians 5 and II Thessalonians 1-2.
