Waiting Until the Last Minute

I am just asking a question that has come to me many times over the years. What makes people wait until the last minute? I know there are a certain percentage of people who do things in advance, and they are always prepared for what is coming. However, it seems to me to be a very small percentage. Most people put things off until the last minute. Then, they have trouble accomplishing what they need to do. Why is it that way?

It could be denial. People could be mentally denying that a bad situation exists or that they really have to do something by a deadline. They could be hoping that at the last second, they will be given more time or they will be bailed out. I would think that after a few failures, they would stop putting things off, if it is denial.

Maybe, it is wishful thinking. Perhaps, they are hopeful that the situation will change at the last minute. They may be hoping for a miracle. Again, when a miracle doesn't happen, or things don't change a few times, what makes them keep putting things off?

I guess the main option is that many people are more disorganized than organized, and they are not self starters. They are waiting for help. They want someone to come and help them. It could be laziness in some instances, I suppose. Then, I am sure it happens because people want to do everything that comes up, so they can't say no to anything. This causes them to be late on everything, since they have too much to do.

What ever the reason, it effects me and others who try to help people. When someone waits until the last minute to ask for help, it makes it much more difficult to help them. When they wait until right before the divorce to get counseling. it puts a great strain on everything. When they come the day before they get evicted, it is an even more difficult situation to solve. When they wait until the last minute to let you know they have been depressed for a long time, and now they want to give up and commit suicide or just leave, it is more difficult to help them get out of that depression.

Therefore, I believe waiting until the last minute shows that Satan is working to hurt that person, so it will be more difficult for them to get help. It is a way that he ruins lives. I would urge all of us not to wait until the last minute. Be pro-active when there is a need. It really helps nGod's solution to be found.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 7-9.
