Not by Might, nor by Power

Most of us need to be reminded of the lesson the Lord taught Zerubbabel through the prophet Zechariah during the time he was trying to rebuild the Temple after the exile. Zerubbabel had a huge task to accomplish, which could have been overwhelming. However, the word of the Lord came to him through Zechariah, "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord." (Zechariah 4:6) The message is clear. He must not try to do God's will by his own might or power. It could only be done by the Spirit of God working in him.

Today, we do not build the Temple, but we want to see the church built up. Often, we try to do it by our own might and power. It never works. We might draw a crowd, but it doesn't become a church without the Spirit. Only the Spirit can draw people to the Lord and change them into new creatures once they come to trust Christ. Only He can convict hearts of their need for Jesus as we witness. He is the only one who can touch the hearts when we gather to worship Jesus. Without Him we can't build a church. After all, Jesus told us He would build His church. He does it by the power of the Spirit, not by man's might or power.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 7-9.
