Two Paths in Life
Psalm 1 is such a fitting description of the two paths of life. One path leads to destruction like chaff that is blown away by the wind. The other path leads to strength and life like a tree planted by the waters.
The downward path begins with listening to the counsel of ungodly people. Remember to look at the lives of those to whom you listen as much or more than you look at what they say. Wisdom comes from the Lord. The path continues when a person hangs out with people who reject God's ways. They are not seeking to be a good influence on them, but they are soaking up what they are saying. The path ends with the person sitting with the scornful and even joining in with their disdain for the Lord.
The upward path begins with the law of the Lord. It is perfect. When a person meditates on it, the truth sinks into their hearts, and they begin to act upon it. They put their roots deep into the Word of God, and they grow stronger and stronger, as they bear more and more fruit. They prosper in the things of the Lord.
Both paths pass by the throne of God for a time of judgment, but in the end the destinations are far different. For those who had been determined to reject God, He grants their request to never be in His Presence or in His Light ever again. For those who embraced Him, He has a place close to Him forever.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 3-5.
