Relationships and Trust

When you think about it, all relationships are based on trust. If there is not trust, a person will not open up to another person to start a relationship in the first place. Once a relationship is started, if the trust is broken, the relationship will cease to grow. Trust is vital to any relationship, human or divine.

That is the reason our relationship with Christ is based on faith. Faith is trust. The only way we can begin a relationship with Christ is to trust Him as Lord and Savior. John 17:3 is clear. Our eternal life is based on knowing the Lord Jesus, or having a relationship with Him. Therefore, trust is the essential element.

I spoke to the NHA students in chapel this morning about trust. If we rely on our own intelligence and our own good works, we are not trusting Jesus. In fact, if we try to trust ourselves, this world, and Jesus, we are not really trusting Jesus. It is only when we put our trust in Christ alone to save us and to give us life that we are trusting Him. Anything less is not real trust.

How would you feel if someone you know told you that they trusted you 50% of the time, and they did not trust you 50% of the time? Is that a close relationship? Would God be pleased with that kind of relationship? I do not think so. He is looking for trust in Him. The Bible says that without faith, it is impossible to please Him. I am afraid that a lot of people who prayed a prayer and asked Jesus to forgive their sins have never trusted Him. They do not obey His commands, because they do not trust Him. They do not seek His will because they are not trying to trust Him. I am afraid they have missed what it means to be saved, because they do not understand that salvation is a relationship with Jesus, and relationships are built on trust. Think about it, and see what God tells you.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 4-5 and Matthew 24:29-51.
