The Amazing Race

I believe there is a TV show called The Amazing Race. I have seen parts of it, and it is pretty exciting to see all of the places they go and the things they have to do, as they try to win money. That is not the real Amazing Race, though. The Christian Life is the most amazing race anyone can run.

It has always struck me how much our lives as Christians are like a long race. This morning I read Hebrews 12:1 again. Each day is a new leg of the race. Each day we must run with endurance, putting aside any sin or other things that would hinder us. Too many people think salvation ends the day they confess Christ as Savior and Lord. The truth is that it just begins that day. Every day after that is an amazing race to win the prize of the Lord. I am not talking about forgiveness from sins. That is a gift of God's grace. The prize is to hear God say, "Well done!" when we stand before Him. There is no reward in the universe more valuable than that.

Sadly most people will never get that prize, because they are not running the race. They may be saved, but each day they are running their own race. They are going on their own path, instead of God's path. They are doing their own desires, not God's desires and commands. Therefore, they think that life is boring or stressful, when in reality it is amazing. I pray that each of us will get in the race by knowing Christ and stay in the race every day by following His directions, so we can win the ultimate reward.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 1-3 and Matthew 24:1-28.
