June 29 - Proverbs 1-3

God's wisdom is essential for a satisfying and fulfilled life. In fact, there is no real wisdom except God's wisdom. That is the theme of the book of Proverbs. The first chapters serve as an introduction to wisdom and an encouragement to seek wisdom. Then, the remaining chapters explain God's wisdom in short statements. I pray that God will speak His wisdom to your heart as you read through this book, and I pray that you will see His blessings as you put His wisdom into practice.

These first three chapters sound a lot like Psalm 1, don't they? Solomon was David's son, and evidently, he came to know God as his father did. However, one of the amazing things about Solomon is that in his understanding of God's wisdom, he still departed from God. That just shows us that it is not enough to know God's Word, we must put it into practice, or we will drift away from God. In fact, Proverbs 1:7 says it all. If a person does not fear God, he will not be led to wisdom and understanding, but he will despise it. I hope you will decide once and for all that God's wisdom is the only truth and wisdom, and all of us must seek it with all of our hearts. If you doubt that read Proverbs 1:24-33, and see the result of going your own way in life. Then, remember, Proverbs 3:5,6, and turn over your life to following God. Read chapter three and count the blessings of following Him. I won't list them all, because there are so many, and because you need to read them for yourself.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 4-6.
