Why Challenge God?
When I was young, the boys would challenge each other to a race or some other competition. They even did this when they knew who was the fastest runner, and they knew they were going to lose again. I guess it must be built into us as humans, especially boys and men. Yes, it even carries over into adulthood. We think we can challenge other people. We even think we can challenge the law, but we end up losing every time. Many of us make it a habit to challenge God, too.
Job knew God pretty well, but he was very hurt by his physical suffering and by his spiritual confusion. Job wanted to speak to God, so he could present his case to Him. He wanted to challenge God's reasoning for allowing him to suffer, even though he had done nothing wrong. (Job 9:4) However, Job already knew he would lose if he did get a chance to question God. He said, "God is so wise and so mighty. Who has ever challenged Him successfully?" So what made Job continue in his desire to challenge God?
I believe we all have pride in our hearts. That pride makes us think more of ourselves than we should. It can even make us think we know better than God on certain things. It happens when we read the Bible, and we come to something we don't agree with. What do we do? Many times we still do things our own way. That is challenging God. We are saying that He didn't know what He was talking about.
Of course, we challenge God at times when we don't like His decisions or His directions for us. We think we have a better ability to direct our own life than God does. Please, remember how wise God is. He is able to see past, present, and future all at once, so His decisions are based on complete knowledge and applied by His loving wisdom. We are very foolish to challenge God any time, just like Job said. No one has ever challenged Him successfully. Let's just trust Him and rest in Him to do the right things.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 11-15.
