Heroic Warrior
There are a lot of TV shows and movies that depict heroes of one type or another. These people are usually delivering the other people or the country from some harm or destruction. They are people who do not let fear control them, but they go ahead and do what needs to be done, even in the face of much danger or personal harm. We seem to be drawn to heroes because they have the courage that most of us lack.
The Bible has a lot of heroic warriors, people who faced hardship and even death to stand up for the cause of what is right and did what needed to be done. However, one man is mentioned several times at the beginning of the Bible. His name was Nimrod.. (I Chronicles 1:10) The Bible tells us that Cush was the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior. Unfortunately, the Bible doesn't tell us just what Nimrod did to get this reputation, but it is notable because he was the first heroic warrior in history.
I believe we need more heroic warriors today. We have heroic warriors who choose to go into the armed forces, and they are prepared to defend our freedoms, even if they have to give their lives in the process. May their tribe increase. We have heroic doctors and nurses who put forth great effort and courage to help their patients overcome their illnesses and other problems. We have police men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens. I pray we will always have plenty of these kinds of mighty warriors.
Even more importantly, I believe we need more spiritual warriors who are heroic in standing up for the Lord and His kingdom. We are in a spiritual war, and we need warriors to stand against Satan and his forces in prayer, laboring long and fighting hard to see the enemy defeated. We need heroic witnesses and missionaries to spread the Gospel here and around the world in the face of much opposition and persecution. In fact, every one of us, as Christians, are called to be brave and heroic for the Lord Jesus who gave Himself for us. I pray that we will fulfill that vital role in our world and not allow fear to defeat us.
