Happy about the Covenant

Most of us have entered into covenants before. A covenant is a contract. We have signed contracts when we have bought cars and houses, or when we have made significant financial investments. In each case we have to follow through and fulfill the terms of the contract, just as they are stated in the agreement. It can be scary signing that we will make 360 payments over 30 years to buy a house, but we do it with a bit of trepidation, hoping all will go well. I wonder how many of us know that we have entered into a covenant with God? If we are Christians, we are part of the New Covenant.

The people of Judah entered into a covenant with God under King Asa. They pledged to be faithful to God and not to worship idols at all. (II Chronicles 15:15) All who were in Judah were happy about the covenant, for they entered into it with all their heart. They earnestly sought after God, and they found Him. And the Lord gave them rest from their enemies on every side. We should learn a lot from this verse.

Are you happy with the covenant you made with Jesus? Did you make it with all of your heart? Just think about it. Jesus gave His blood and His life to pay for our sins once and for all. Then, He offered salvation from our sins by grace through faith. He offered to forgive our sins forever, and give us eternal life. If you are a Christians, then He has kept His part of the covenant, and your future is secure in Him. Praise the Lord! However, are we keeping our part of the covenant?

In Luke 9:23 says, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me." God said that we are to "be conformed to the image of His Son." (Romans 8:29) We are to be His ambassadors and His witnesses everywhere we go to make disciples of all peoples. (II Corinthians 5:20; Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19-20) These things do not save us, but they are our part of the covenant, and we should be happy about the covenant, having entered into it with all our heart, earnestly seeking after God in all we do. If we do this, we will walk with God and enjoy the peace that passes understanding.
