Rejecting The King for another king
God is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He is the King over the whole universe, and no other king comes close to His power and authority. He is in control of everything, but He has chosen to allow us to have free will to be able to choose Him as our personal King. If we reject Him, He allows us to go and choose whatever king we want to have, God doesn't want to be King by force, but He wants us to make Him King because of our love and faith in Him.
Samuel found out this reality, and it was a very sad moment for him. The people came to him and asked him to appoint a king to be over them. They wanted to be like the other nations of the world. So Samuel went to the Lord with their request. (I Samuel 8:7) God told Samuel to do everything they were asking. He told Samuel that they were not rejecting him, but they were rejecting God. They did not want Him to be their king any longer. That is the worst decision anyone can ever make.
Some people reject God as King over their life because they know that God is holy and righteous. They know if they make Him their King, they will have to do life His way, and they want to live unrighteous lives. Therefore they choose another king who will allow them to go in their own way. Others simply want to be their own king. They don't want to answer to God or to anyone else. Either way, they are rejecting God, and they will be allowed to into eternity with their sins unforgiven and without Him.
God doesn't ever want that to happen. He does everything He can do to prove Himself worthy to be our King. He even sent His Only-begotten Son, Jesus, to die for our sins and rise again, so all sins could be forgiven by grace through faith in Him. That is what the King has done for us. We need to bow before Him in repentance for our sins and trust Jesus alone for our salvation, making God the King of our life. Then, our sins are washed away, and we have eternal life with Him in heaven forever. Please, make God your King and be saved today.
