Praising God
A lot of Christians have a hard time when it comes to praising God. Yes, I know we sing songs that praise the Lord when we are at church or when we are listening to the radio. What I am talking about is praising God when we are talking with him in prayer. We thank God for what He has done, but how much time do we actually spend praising Him for who He is? It would help us to become more adept at praising God when we enter into His courts in prayer.
Hannah was Samuel's mother. She had been childless for many years, so she earnestly prayed for a son, and God granted her request. Then, she gave her son to the Lord to serve in the Tabernacle. (I Samuel 2:2) This led Hannah to sincerely break out in praise to God. She declared that no one was holy like the Lord, and there was no one besides Him. There was no Rock like the God of Israel. Let's see what we can learn about praising God from Hannah.
We can always praise God for being holy. Truly, there is no one who is holy like the Lord. He always does the right thing, and He never does the wrong thing. That makes Him far different from all of us as His servants. There is no one besides Him, too. There is no One for us to believe in and trust in every day besides Him. He is worthy of our total devotion. He alone is our Rock, our firm Foundation. Once we know Him, we are secure from evil forever.
Now think about how it would always help us to praise God when we enter into prayer. If we do, we see God correctly. We know His power and wisdom. We are assured of His holiness and righteousness. We have every reason to trust Him with our requests and know that His answer will always be what is best. It puts us in the right frame of mind and heart to pray for others and for ourselves. So let's decide to praise God for His perfect character and pray with power.
