Finishing All the Work
Some of us are good at starting on a project, but we have trouble finishing what we have started, That is still better than those of us who think about work that needs to be done, but we never even get started. We think about it, and maybe we even make some plans, but we never complete the work. Then, there are those who do the work, but they only do it half-way. That is not any good either. God's will is that we do all the work and finish it completely.
That is just what Joshua did after He led the Israelites into the Promised Land. They had one set back at Ai, but after that Joshua and the people were faithful to God. (Joshua 11:15) Just as the Lord commanded His servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. Then, Joshua did as he was told, carefully obeying all the commands that the Lord had given to Moses. Joshua finished what was planted in Moses' heart by God, and he did it all. Think about this with me.
There are all kinds of things that the Lord wants us to do based on our situation in life. We have to honor our father and mother when we are children, but we need to keep doing that until they are gone, too. We need to be a faithful husband or wife, if we are married. That is a huge responsibility that we cannot afford to do half-way. We need to do our job well, no matter the nature of our work, because we are to do it, as to the Lord. In every case we must do all that is commanded us until we finish the work. That is what glorifies God.
So, if we are procrastinators, we need to confess that sin and repent, so that we stop putting things off, get started, and finish the work. If we are, prone to start a job and not to finish it, we need to ask God to help us focus on that one thing until it is done, and then move to the next job. If we tend to get discouraged and quit in the middle of doing what we need to do, we need a prayer partner to pray for us and to hold us accountable. However, whatever it takes, we must be sure we finish everything God has commanded us to do. We must do it in the right time and in the right way, so we bring honor to the Lord, and He can give us success.
