Others Seeing the Lord is with Us
There are some people we meet that are obviously different from other people. Sometimes we are impressed by their intellect. Other times we see that they have special physical abilities. Then, there are others who are obviously very creative. However, there is another type of people we meet, who are different for a much better reason. We can tell that the Lord is with them.
King Abimelech was at odds with Isaac. He was afraid of him because he was becoming so wealthy and successful. He drove Isaac out of his land. However, then he came to Isaac with a special request. (Genesis 26:28) He and his men told Isaac that they could plainly see that the Lord was with Isaac, so they requested to make a covenant with them, a sworn treaty. Isaac agreed with their request. He should have felt very good about this.
One of the greatest compliments that we can ever receive is that others can tell that the Lord is with us. That is how it ought to be with every Christian, but I am afraid that is not the case. It only becomes apparent to others when we live a life of total obedience to the Lord, and He is able to bless us inwardly and outwardly. Sometimes, others can see the godly character that God has built up in us. Other times, they see the blessings He has showered on our life.
Either way, others come to respect us. They may or may not decide to trust Jesus themselves. Of course, that is what we want to happen. They could just feel ashamed of how they live because of the difference they see in us. They may become a little afraid of us because they don't understand the Lord's ways. That is what happened to King Abimelech and his men. The main thing is that we make that clear impression on others, so God can show others how great it is to have Him with us.
