What is Your Life?
We are all alive, but what does it mean to be alive? What is life? It is a gift from God. We had no part in giving ourselves life. It was all by the plan and purpose of God. He designed it, and we need to get to know how He designed it, so we can live it well. However, most of us spend our days not giving any real thought about life until something happens that threatens to take it away from us. Then, we are upset because we thought we would live longer.
The book of James gives us some very important truths when it comes to understanding life. (James 4:14) The truth is that none of us know what is going to happen to us or our world tomorrow. For what is our life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. That's right, and that is how we need to look at life. It would inspire us to live every moment like it could be our last moment on this earth.
Life is short. I have already lived 70+ years, but those years have gone by very quickly. I can't even really believe it has been 52 years since I graduated from Avondale High School and over 51 years since I got married to Chris. Time is very hard to grasp, but I know if my life so far seems short, then the rest of it will really go quickly. That is just the nature of life. None of us can change that.
However, we can and should be motivated by this truth, so we live our lives as God desires for us to live each moment of every day that He gives us. We can make plans for the future, but they must all be based on the assumption that God allows us to live that long. We should never put off doing anything that is very important for us and our loved ones. We should live in the moment, not in the past or in the future. Then, no matter the duration of our vapor, it will be beautiful until we go home to heaven.
