It's Time to Seek the Lord
There are times when we as individuals get away from the Lord. This happens to unbelievers, who once had been fairly close to coming to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. It also happens to believers. We can drift away from God by being complacent and neglecting to spend the needed time with the Lord growing in Him. When this happens, it's time to seek the Lord.
Hosea gives us a picture of how we are to seek the Lord using a farming analogy. (Hosea 10:12) We need to sow for ourselves with a view to righteousness, then we will harvest in accordance with kindness. We must break up the uncultivated ground of our hearts, so it will be soft. Then, we are ready to seek the Lord until He comes and rains righteousness on us. Let's break that down a little.
We always reap what we sow. If we sow unrighteous thoughts, words, and actions in our life, we will reap unrighteousness. Therefore, we must determine to plant the righteous things in our life. God's Word tells us just what we need to be doing to think and to live righteously. When we do these things God's kindness will come upon us, because He will be pleased with our decision to act in righteousness.
Then, we must break up any hard places in our hearts where we are resistant to God's way and His changes in our life. We do this by confessing sins and seeking to know God's way for us, instead of living by our own ways. When we sincerely seek the Lord in these ways, God will rain His righteousness on us. He will grow us in Him by providing the nourishment and the power we need to be close to Him and stay close to Him.
