God Always Repays What is Owed
Some people fail to pay debts that they owe. However, God never fails to repay what is owed. Of course, God does not owe debts like we do. His debts have to do with settling accounts to make sure justice is done.(Jeremiah 51:24) Let me explain.
Every sin is punished by God. He told us that the "wages" or payment for sin is death.(Romans 3:23) Eventually, if a person sins and sins with no forgiveness, the payment for their sins is eternal separation from God and punishment in death. If God fails to pay some type of punishment for a sin we commit, He is not a just God. He is not acting in a holy way. Therefore, He always repays sin in the right way.
His ways are not our ways. Sometimes, He waits to repay. Sometimes, He has mercy, and He pays less than He could. However, He always settles accounts like He did with Babylon. We will not escape the wages of sin, unless a payment is made for our sins. Jesus made that payment, once and for all on the cross. However, the payment of Christ is not credited to our account with God unless we trust Him as Lord of our lives. He gave His blood and life to pay for our sins, so we must respond by giving our lives to Him, as Lord. Then, we do not have to be concerned about spending eternity in Hell. We still have to live holy lives in which we do God's will and avoid sin, because sin destroys. That is why we have to confess our sins after we are forgiven for our sins.(I John 1:9) God wants to see that we know the seriousness of committing sins and to see our heart not to sin, so He can wipe those sins away and restore our fellowship with Him. Otherwise, He will repay those sins, too. That is why so many Christians are suffering the effects of sins in their lives.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 52 and Lamentations 1-2.
