The Potential to See God's Blessing
Potential is a great builder of hope, but potential alone can't bring the blessing. If we do not see potential, we can get very discouraged. If we do see potential, we can get very excited. Potential is not a guarantee of success, but it makes it more probable. Sometimes, there is great success where there was not much potential to be seen. However, in each case the elements that bring success must be added to potential to see results.
I have been thinking about potential because of my visit with Phil Covone, the pastor of Iglesia Bautista Luz y Verdad. They are beginning to have services at Daniel Drive Baptist Church, and they have already seen God move in a great way. They have had over 300 Spanish speaking people come to their free English classes. Now, they are seeing some of these people and other people from the community come to Christ, and there is a great potential for a growing church there. It is very exciting.
Also, I am anticipating our church family moving into our new worship center soon. I believe it is a time of great potential for us. We have an opportunity to impact our community for Christ in a new and different way partly because of the advantages of this new facility.
The key to turning potential into success is power. In these two cases it will be dependent on the power of God to change lives. It is also dependent on participation. The more people who get involved in reaching others the more success is possible. Also, we must have the blessing of God upon our efforts to reach the full potential. I remember my pastor years ago telling the story of the ant that rode on the back of an elephant. When they went across a wooden bridge, the bridge shook, and the ant exclaimed, We really shook that bring, didn't we?" That is how it is with us and God. We don't really contribute to the success. We are just along for the ride. If anything eternal is done, it will be done by Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 113-115 and I Corinthians 6.
