No One was Sorry He Died
It may be because I am getting old, but I do think about what will happen when I die. I wonder what will cause my death and how I will handle it. I don't ever want to be a burden to my family and friends. I am not thinking about these things a lot, but they do cross my mind. I have communicated some things to my family just in case things happen suddenly. However, I think I will leave the funeral service up to my children and others to say what needs to be said about me and my life.
King Jehoshaphat's son, Jehoram, became king when he died. He was a very evil king who killed his brothers and led the people to worship idols like the kings of Israel. (II Chronicles 21:20) "He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eight years. No one was sorry when he died. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the royal cemetery." I believe that is one of the saddest verses in the Bible. I pray that will not be said about any of us.
I believe we all want to leave a mark on our world by what we do in our lives. We want to find our calling, our niche, and do our job or fill our position well. We want to be known for our integrity and our competence, so that when we finish our career, others recognize our accomplishments. We probably won't be famous or in the news or anything like that, but it would be nice to be remembered fondly by the people with whom we worked and associated with in our lives.
Then, there should be the memory of how we loved others. As Christians, we have the love of Christ in us, and we are to share His love with everyone. This is first and foremost how we should love our family members, doing whatever we can to support them and encourage them. However, our Christ-like love should extend to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as our neighbors and other friends. Then, when the end of our life on earth comes, they will be sorry that we are gone because they will miss our love and all of the good things we did in our life.
