Don't Be Foolish

The Bible tells us that "the fool has said in his heart there is no God." That is why I say that we are acting foolishly when we act as if there is no God.  In order to be foolish, we do not have to deny the existence of God. We just have to live in such a way that we don't fully depend on God and worship Him alone. I am afraid that there are a lot of believers who end up acting foolishly when they think they are right with the Lord.

King Asa had been very faithful to God at the beginning of his reign, trusting the Lord to give Judah the victory over a huge enemy army. However, later when the king of Israel decided to attack him, he made an alliance with the king of Aram to protect Judah instead of asking the Lord. (II Chronicles 16:9) Then, Hanani the seer or prophet came to tell Asa that the eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. Then, he admonished Asa and rebuked him for being foolish in not trusting God fully. He told the king that from then on he would be at war. I pray we will learn from this.

We are foolish as Christians when we don't go to the Lord first and seek His counsel on every decision we make. After all, God is all-wise and all-loving.  Why would we not go to Him first? We are acting as if God doesn't exist when we do that. Also, if we are making a huge mistake when we seek out a spouse or a new job, and we do not depend on God's direction, but ignore Him. That is totally backwards from what we ought to do. Let's determine not to be foolish in this way.

We need to realize that God is searching the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. We do not have to beg God to give us strength. Our part is what counts. Are we going to be fully committed to God or not? If we are fully committed, we are acting very wisely. If we are not fully committed to God, we are being very foolish, even though we are saved. I pray we will all be fully committed to God and receive His strength.
