Long Lasting Faith

I love the account of Caleb's life in the Bible. He had such a fantastic testimony of how God had blessed him because of his faith in Him. The fact is that Caleb did not waver in his faith even though he had to wait over 40 years to receive what God promised. That is the long lasting faith that we all need to have as Christians. We should never give up on trusting God to deliver what He has promised us.

When the Israelites finally got to the Promised Land, Caleb went to Joshua as he was dividing the land among the tribes. (Joshua 14:12) He asked Joshua to give him the hill country that the Lord had promised him. He reminded Joshua that as one of the a scouts they found the descendants of Anak living there in great, walled towns. However, he knew that if the Lord was with him, he could drive them out just as the Lord had said. What a great example for us.

Caleb waited 40 years to get back to the Promised Land he had scouted and to take possession of the land God promised him. He kept his faith, and God allowed him to keep his strength. He was just as strong at 85 years old as he had been when he scouted out the hill country. I wonder how  many of us would continue having faith in God to deliver what He said to us after 40 years? That is real faith that doesn't grow weak.

Also, Caleb saw how strong the giants of Anak were, and He saw the great strength of their walled towns, but that did not keep Him from having faith in God to give Him victory over them. He knew if God was with him, he would find success. That is real, long lasting faith, too. We have to trust that if God is with us, we can do anything He gives us to do. So, I pray we will all have faith like Caleb and see the giants and the walls in our lives come down by God's power in us.
