The Goodness of God
I love the song "The Goodness of God." I can't sing it without crying. It is so true for me and my life. All of my life He has been faithful. All my life He has been so so good. Therefore, with every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God. I will let everyone know just what the Lord has done for me, not only saving me, but meeting every need. Yes, I am not exaggerating.
That was the testimony of Moses for the Israelites after they had been in the wilderness for forty years because of their unfaithfulness. (Deuteronomy 2:7) God had blessed them in everything they had done. He had watched them every step through the great wilderness. During those forty years the Lord their God was with them, and they had lacked nothing. What a great testimony for Israel, but it is really my testimony, too.
God has blessed me in all that I have done, in elementary and high school, in college and seminary, in marriage and having children, in pastoring 5 churches. He has blessed physically and financially. He has been watching over me every step for these 70 years, so that He has preserved my life, and I have lacked nothing that I have needed. This is true to the point that now there is nothing I lack because I have Him. However, that doesn't mean I haven't had problems and difficulties. It does mean that He has been with me through them all.
My little sister died at 24, when I was 27, and God gave me the grace and strength to help my parents through that loss, even moving us back to live on the same street as them, so our kids could give them some joy. I went through all kinds of church problems over the years, but God was with me, and He gave me wisdom and strength to deal with each one. My dear wife died of terrible pancreatic cancer, but God walked us both through it together. Now, she is with Him in heaven, and He is with me here, meeting every need, so there is no lack of peace and joy from His Spirit. Now, you can see why I sing of His goodness with every breath.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 3-5.
