Found Out by Our Sin

There is no way to commit a sin and get away without having any consequences. God sees all, and He knows all. He can never ignore sin, because that would not be the loving thing to do. He must punish sin, because He is holy, and He knows full well that sin brings destruction, one way or another. Therefore, we are fooling ourselves if we think we can escape the consequences of our sins without dealing with it correctly.

God makes this point very clear in His Word. (Numbers 32:23) Moses told the two and a half tribes who wanted to settle east of the Jordan river that if they failed to keep their word, they could be sure that their sin would find them out. I believe this is a general spiritual principle that we all need to understand, so we do not suffer from our sins any longer, but get rid of them completely. Let me explain.

When we sin, we can't ignore it until it goes away. That is denying the severity of sin. We can try to forget it, but God will keep bringing it up for us to make it right. There is no way to hide a sin, because God will make sure others know about it one way or another. We must admit our sins, specifically naming each one to the Lord. Then, we need to confess them to God saying the same thing that He would say about that sin. (I John 1:9) It can't be a simple prayer that tries to dismiss the sin without realizing how wrong we were.

Then, and only then, can God cleanse us from the consequences of that sin. Our close relationship with Him is restored. We have close fellowship with God again, and we are freed from the burden. We may still have some consequences, but the grace of God will be available to us to handle those consequences. I am not saying we are not saved unless we confess each sin. When we are saved all of our sins, past, present, and future are forgiven by Christ's blood. It is our relationship with God that is harmed, and we must confess the sins to have the right relationship with Him again.
