The Oil of Gladness
Life is so much better when we can live in an attitude of gladness and joy. It is not any good for us to be complaining about things and upset all of the time. We might think that the things that makes the difference between these two situations are more money, a good job, or a going lot of nice places. However, those things do not bring gladness and joy. That comes from our heart.
The psalmist showed us the key here. Let's look at the principle presented and not worry about whether He is referring to Jesus or someone else right now. (Psalm 45:7) This person to whom he is referring loved righteousness and hated wickedness, so God anointed him with the oil of gladness more than his companions. I pray all of us will be anointed with the oil of gladness every day of our lives. Let's think about how to have this happen.
We must begin by loving righteousness. When that is the case, we do our part to know God's will and to do it all of the time. Have you ever noticed how much better you feel when you are doing the things God has told us to do? It gives us a major shift in our attitude. Then, if we hate wickedness at the same time, we will eliminate those things that bring harm to us and to others, so our lives go so much better.
When we do those two things, God sees what is going on in our lives and He pours on us the oil of gladness. He anoints us by His Spirit, so that we go rejoicing through life, no matter what circumstances we are facing. That is God's blessing for a life well lived We will have more joy than those around us, so we will stick out from the crowd and be able to point others to the Lord Jesus.
