The Word of the Lord Came
I am afraid that most of us do not listen for the Lord to speak to us the way we should. We might read a devotional book each day, or we might read a passage from the Bible on a regular basis, but do we listen for what the Lord has to say to us? If we are not expecting to hear a word from God, we will not know how to trust Him, and we will not have what He has for us.
Elijah, the prophet, was good at hearing from the Lord. (I Kings 17:8-9) The word of the Lord came to Elijah. God told him to go down to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon and to stay there, because He had commanded a widow there to provide food for him. This was a great and miraculous blessing since there was a drought in the land.
I wonder how many miracles we have missed because we did not receive the word of the Lord when it came to us? Yes, I believe that God wants to do things in us and through us that we can't do for ourselves. Many of those things would have to be called miracles, since they only happen by God's direction and power.
Therefore, a central feature of our lives needs to be taking time to listen for God to speak as we read the Bible and pray. Then, we need to be tuned into the Lord all day long by being filled with the Holy Spirit. When the word of the Lord comes to us, we need to obey completely and immediately. Then, we will see what only God can do, and it will be a great blessing.
