Having Our Devotion to Christ Corrupted

When things are corrupted, they are not what they were intended to be, or they are not still in the same condition they were in at the beginning. Corruption is a part of this world in which we live. Nothing remains undefiled for long. We have to repaint our houses and pressure wash our driveways. It is a constant process of restoration.

The same is true for our spiritual condition. Paul expressed this truth to the believers of his day. (II Corinthians 11:3) He feared that their pure and undivided devotion to Christ would be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. This gives us a valuable insight for today.

Sin brings corruption into our hearts. Satan is constantly prowling around seeking whom he may tempt to sin like he tempted Eve. When Eve and Adam sinned, nothing was like it was before. Their innocence was gone. They were afraid of God, instead of walking with Him. God had to restore them, so He could relate to them once more.

I pray we will not allow this to happen to us. I pray that we will have pure devotion to Christ that is not mixed with any doubt or rebellion. I pray we will have undivided devotion to Christ, so that He is Lord, and we do not follow idols in any way. To do this we must draw near to God and resist Satan, so he will have to flee from us.
