The Holy Son of God

One of the hardest things for us, as humans and Christians, to understand is the nature of Jesus. We find it very difficult to conceive of how He could be 100% God and 100% Man at the same time, two natures in One Person.  That is an amazing miracle of God, and He did it for us.

The angel explained it this way to Mary before she as a virgin conceived Jesus. (Luke 1:35) He told her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and the power of the Most High would overshadow her, so that the baby would be holy, and He would be called the Son of God. Let's take this apart for our understanding today.

The Holy Spirit came upon Mary in such a way that the divine nature of God combined with the egg from Mary's body. This happened by the power of God overshadowing her in an instant. That is the virgin birth process. God did this so Jesus would be holy, separated from any sinful nature or sin. That way, He could die for us as the perfect sacrifice.

Also, He was the Son of God. He was not the creation of God, because Jesus is eternal. He is the Son of God in that He was God incarnate, in a human body, to show us the Father. He was like His Father in every way. That way, He could communicate to us everything about the Father. He could say, if you have seen me, you have seen the Father.
