Our Spiritual Family

Church is much more than a building. It is not a worship service either. Church is people, All of the people who know Jesus as their Lord and Savior make up the church. The Lord means for every Christian to be a member of a local church, and those people are to be a spiritual family for them.

Even Jesus made this point when His family came to see about Him. (Mark 3:34-35) Jesus looked at the people around Him and said, "Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does God's will is My brother and sister and mother." This does not diminish the importance of our physical family, but it makes a very important point.

Family is supposed to be a group of related people who are very close to each other and support each other. Some families are closer than others, because they may or may not hold the same beliefs and have the same behaviors. However, the spiritual family has a built in closeness. We should all have the same beliefs and practices.

Our spiritual family all have the same Heavenly Father, the Same Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, and the same Holy Spirit. This means we can understand each other and draw close to each other in a unique way. Sometimes, our Christian friends can be closer to us than our physical family because of this. Also, we all have the same Bible to lead us and help us grow to be more like Jesus. This increases our fellowship with each other, too.
