One Key to Answered Prayers

Prayer is talking with God about all kinds of things. We can spend time thanking Him for blessings and praising Him for His attributes. We can intercede for others, and pray for our needs, as well. However, we must remember that God looks at our heart, more than just hearing our words. He doesn't answer us, when we have unconfessed sins and our hearts are not right with Him.

The psalmist saw God answer his prayer. (Psalm 66:18-20) He knew that if he had not confessed the sin in his heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen. He paid attention to his prayer. The psalmist praised God for not ignoring his prayer and not withdrawing His unfailing love from him. I pray we can say the same thing.

We can't hide sins from God. He sees every one of our sins. He knows our motives and reasons for committing those sins. He can't forgive them until we are honest with Him and confess how serious those sins are, asking Him to forgive them by His mercy and grace.

When we sincerely confess the sins in our heart, God doesn't ignore our prayer or withdraw His love from us. No, the opposite is true. He is glad that we have been transparent with Him, and He shows us His love and forgiveness. We should praise Him for His unfailing love and His forgiveness all the time, being confident that when we confess, He responds well to our prayers.
