Understanding

 This world can be very confusing to us. It is so hard to understand why things happen to us and to others. It is very difficult to see what God is doing in the world with all of the evil that is abounding. The simple truth is that we may never understand these things. In reality, we do not really need to know these things or else God would have shown us in His Word, or He would show us personally what we want to know. Paul told the Christians at Corinth that God was in the business of showing us what we need to know and how that happens. (I Corinthians 2:12) He explained that we have not received the spirit of the world. We have received the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. Now, those are the things we really need to understand.

This world should not be the source of what satisfies the child of God. We shouldn't be trying to fully comprehend the things of this world. Even if we understand them, it will not bring us any happiness, joy, or peace. That is why God has not given us the spirit of the world to grasp these things. Let them go and trust in the Lord. He has sent all Christians the Holy Spirit. He is the One from God. He comes that we may understand the things that God has freely given us. Yes, we can't understand them fully on our own. They are too marvelous for our human mind and heart to grasp. However, with the insight and illumination of the Spirit of God, we can understand them. We can see that God's free gifts to us are all we need to live an abundant Christian life, no matter what is happening around us. Isn't that what we really need? I believe it is. I pray we will all allow the Spirit to teach us and grow us in our understanding of God's gifts to us, so we can dwell in joy and peace all of our days.
