Spiritual Fatherhood

Fatherhood is a great role for us, as men, to fulfill. It takes a lot of time and effort to do well, and we can't do it well, at all, without God's help. I am afraid many men do not take it seriously, and that has caused many problems in our world today. Every father should feel a great burden of responsibility for his family, so that he works had to be an excellent provider, as well as, a capable trainer for his children. Paul used these facts to communicate a spiritual truth about spiritual fatherhood to the Christians in Corinth. He was concerned about them. He did not want them to get off track or not grow up in the Lord, as they should. (I Corinthians 4:15) That is why he reminded them that they could have many instructors in Christ, but they could only have one father. He had become their spiritual father when he shared the gospel with them to bring them to the new birth. He is showing why they need to listen to Him about spiritual things. I wonder how many spiritual children Paul had that he was trying to raise well in the Lord?

That brings me to my question for today. How many spiritual children do you have? The Lord wants all of us, as Christians, to have many people with whom we have shared the gospel and seen them come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Then, how many of those people have you helped raise in the Lord like Paul was doing in his letter to the church at Corinth.? God is expecting us to do both of these things well. Then, once our spiritual children have grown spiritually, and they bring someone else to Jesus, we have spiritual grandchildren. That cycle should go on and on for all Christians, so we see many others touched by our witness. I pray for us all to be actively sharing the gospel in an effort to have as many spiritual children and grandchildren as possible. That is very pleasing to God.
