The Value of Our Life

We hear people speak about the "net worth" of a famous person. Of course, that means the amount of money that person has amassed in their lifetime. However, is that really their worth or the value of their life? I don't think so. Can the value of our life be judged by our money or our experiences? No, it can't. If that is all the value of our life, we have not done anything worthwhile for eternity. The key to our value is what we do that has lasting results. Paul said it well. (Acts 20:24) He knew that his life was of no value to himself. His purpose was to finish the course of his life and to finish the ministry he had received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of God's grace. I pray we can all see what he was telling us that is so important.

If we live our life for ourselves that is of no value to us. Of yeah, we have some fun, and we go some neat places to see the sights. We may even have an important job and have a great amount of influence in the business world. Our bank account may be huge, too. The problem is that when we die and stand before the Lord, none of those things will be considered as things of value by God. He will not commend us for those things, and we will not have helped others in any significant way. However, if we finish the course of our life with the purpose of accomplishing the ministry God has for us to do and testifying to the gospel of God's grace, then, our life had worth for others and for the kingdom of God. When we give up our life to do God's will designed for us personally, and to show people how to be saved by God's grace, we will have made an eternal impact of many lives. When we get to heaven, we will benefit from the rewards God has for us, and we will see the value of our life by the people who come to thank us for what we have done for the Lord. I pray we will all determine to live a life of real, lasting value and not just try to enjoy ourselves for whatever time we have here on earth.
